A season on the R9: the Cycle News long-term review

What a long-term test found once the launch excitement wore off: torque, steering and fueling.

Cycle News kept a 2025 R9 for a long-term test. Against the R6 it effectively replaces, the triple has far more low-end torque, which counts for more on the road than peak power does.

The trade-off is steering: its geometry, longer wheelbase and extra weight make it slower to turn in than the R6. The reviewer also found the fueling could use a tuner's attention, and says a taller seat would be his first change.

For reference, Yamaha claims 117 hp at 10,000 rpm and 68 lb-ft at 7,000 rpm, with a 430 lb wet weight and a 3.7 gallon tank. US MSRP was $12,499. The review did not put the bike on a dyno.
