Why Choose the Sprint P08 F1-85 Air Filter for Your Yamaha R9 The Sprint Filter P08 F1-85 is Sprint Filter's ultimate performance air filter — the same technology trusted by Factory MotoGP and World Superbike (SBK) racing teams. Engineered for riders who demand the absolute maximum from their motorcycles, the P08 F1-85 delivers nearly three times the airflow of the already high-performing P08, with virtually identical filtration efficiency. Whether you're chasing lap times on the track or pushing hard on your favorite back road, the P08 F1-85 is the highest-flowing, highest-performing drop-in air filter available for the Yamaha R9 — and unlike most race filters, it requires no ECU remapping on a stock bike. Race-Proven Performance — MotoGP & SBK Technology for Your Street Bike Sprint Filter has been engineering air filtration since 1952 — the world's oldest manufacturer of high-performance air filters. The P08 F1-85 represents the pinnacle of that 65+ years of expertise, refined through active development with Factory MotoGP and SBK racing programs. Independent Testing — The Numbers Behind the Claims An independent study conducted by the University of Wales Trinity St David found that Sprint Filter's standard P08 polyester tissue outperformed every leading brand filter tested — including competing brands' dedicated "race" filters — in airflow performance. The P08 F1-85 takes this further: it delivers approximately 3x the airflow of the P08 while maintaining virtually the same outstanding filtration efficiency, making it suitable for both race and moderate road use without compromise. Patented 22-Micron Polyester Weave Technology 22-micron wire diameter — Ultra-fine patented polyester material engineered specifically for road racing applications 85-micron particle filtration — Unique weave pattern captures debris as small as 85 microns while maintaining the highest airflow permeability of any filter on the market Waterproof construction — Patented technology makes the P08 F1-85 the only waterproof race filter in the world, protecting your engine in wet conditions without compromising performance 95.22% particle retention — Retains 95.22% of 100-micron particles, outperforming oil-soaked cotton filters (which retain 76.42% of the same particles) Single-layer polyester — Uniform structure creates less airflow turbulence than multi-layer alternatives, maximizing airflow consistency No ECU Remapping Required Despite its race-specification performance, the P08 F1-85 can be installed on a stock Yamaha R9 without carburation adjustment, ECU remapping, or additional control units. For riders with performance modifications — such as an aftermarket exhaust, ECU flash, or a full race build — the P08 F1-85 complements those upgrades and helps unlock the full potential of your engine. Virtually Maintenance-Free — No Oils, No Cleaners Required One of the most significant advantages of the P08 F1-85 over cotton or foam race filters is its near-zero maintenance demand. There are no messy oil treatments, no special cleaning solutions, and no waiting for the filter to dry before you can ride again. How to Clean the Sprint P08 F1-85 Remove the filter from the airbox Blow clean with compressed air (blown in the opposite direction of airflow) Reinstall immediately — no drying time required Important: Do not oil a Sprint Filter. Sprint Filter air filters are dry-filter technology by design. Applying oil will compromise filtration performance and may damage your engine. For heavily soiled filters, soak in a common household detergent, rinse with clean water until it runs clear, allow to fully air dry, then blow with compressed air before reinstalling. Lifetime Durability Because the P08 F1-85 is constructed from man-made polyester, it displays no discernible deterioration or loss of structural integrity over the life of your motorcycle — provided it is properly maintained. This is a one-time investment that eliminates the ongoing cost of disposable paper filters and the recurring labor of cotton filter maintenance. The P08 F1-85 is Sprint Filter's top-tier race specification filter, developed for and used by Factory MotoGP and SBK teams. Compared to the already high-performing standard P08, the P08 F1-85 delivers approximately three times the airflow, uses a finer 22-micron wire diameter polyester weave, and incorporates patented waterproof construction. Despite these performance advantages, filtration efficiency remains virtually identical — 95.22% particle retention for P08 F1-85 vs. 93.13% for the standard P08. How much horsepower will the P08 F1-85 add to my motorcycle? High-flow performance air filters typically contribute 1–3 horsepower on stock engines by reducing intake restriction. The greater benefit of the P08 F1-85 is improved throttle response and significantly increased airflow headroom for engines with modifications such as performance exhausts or ECU tuning. The more modifications your motorcycle has, the more the P08 F1-85's high-flow capability can be leveraged. Does installing the P08 F1-85 require ECU tuning or remapping? No. The Sprint P08 F1-85 installs as a direct replacement for the factory air filter and is engineered to work within stock ECU parameters without any fuel system adjustments or remapping. If your bike has other performance modifications — exhaust systems, ECU flashes, or throttle body work — this filter pairs exceptionally well with those upgrades, and ECU tuning in those cases may be beneficial to fully optimize the air-fuel mixture. Do I need to oil the Sprint P08 F1-85? No — and this is critical. Sprint Filter air filters use dry polyester technology and must never be oiled. Applying oil to the P08 F1-85 will compromise its filtration performance and can cause oil contamination in your intake system, potentially damaging your engine. If you accidentally oil the filter, absorb as much oil as possible with a clean cloth, wash with a common household detergent, rinse thoroughly, allow to completely air dry, then blow with compressed air before reinstalling. How do I clean the Sprint P08 F1-85 — and how often? Under normal street riding conditions, the P08 F1-85 can be cleaned every 10,000–15,000 kilometers. To clean: remove the filter, blow it with compressed air in the opposite direction of normal airflow, and reinstall immediately — no washing or drying time required. For filters that are heavily soiled, soak in common household detergent, rinse with clean water until it runs clear, allow to fully air dry, then blow with compressed air before reinstalling. Riders in dusty or off-road environments should inspect and clean the filter more frequently. Is the P08 F1-85 waterproof? Yes. The Sprint Filter P08 F1-85 features patented waterproof construction, making it the only race-specification filter in the world with this capability. This provides added protection in wet riding conditions without compromising the filter's performance or requiring any special post-ride treatment. Will this filter void my warranty? No. Installing an aftermarket air filter does not void your motorcycle's warranty under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. The P08 F1-85 is a direct drop-in replacement that requires no modifications to the airbox, emissions system, or any other component. Is the Sprint P08 F1-85 EPA compliant for street use? Yes. The P08 F1-85 is a direct replacement air filter that maintains proper filtration standards and does not alter the motorcycle's emissions system. It is compliant for street use in all 50 states. How long does the Sprint P08 F1-85 last? With proper maintenance, the P08 F1-85 is designed to last the lifetime of your motorcycle. Because it is made from man-made polyester, it does not deteriorate, lose structural integrity, or degrade in performance over time the way cotton or foam filters can. Sprint Filter backs this quality with a 2-year manufacturer warranty from the date of purchase from an authorized dealer. How is the Sprint P08 F1-85 different from K&N and other aftermarket filters? The P08 F1-85 is a dry polyester filter — it requires no oiling, unlike K&N and most cotton-gauze filters which require periodic oil treatments. Sprint Filter's independent university testing showed the standard P08 polyester outperformed all leading brand filters — including race-specification cotton filters — in airflow. The P08 F1-85 extends that lead further with approximately 3x the airflow of the standard P08. Additionally, the P08 F1-85 is waterproof and is the only filter of its kind in the world. Sprint Filter's manufacturing process — developed over 65+ years and validated at the highest levels of motorsport competition — uses patented single-layer polyester technology for more uniform airflow and less intake turbulence.
